The lights go up this week on Thornbury Community Theatre's new comedy, Exit Who?.
The show runs Friday, May 2; and Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Marsh Street Centre in downtown Clarksburg. Tickets are still available for Friday and Saturday.
Exit Who? is a sequel to Exit the Body, which TCT performed in 1998. Both comedies are by playwright Fred Carmichael, author of more than 50 plays.
The story centres around successful novelist Crane Hammond (Bev Byrne) and her secretary Kate Bixley (Michelle Plummer), who have arrived at a rustic cottage in rural Vermont, planning to work on Crane's next bestseller. The cottage has one unique feature -- a closet that has a hidden exit leading to the library.
As in Exit the Body, the comings and goings of various characters via the closet is cause for consternation for Crane and Kate and laughs for the audience. There's a missing microdot that contains top secret military information.
An enemy spy is supposed to be coming to get the microdot, and Crane, Kate and a CIA agent named Joel (Scott Clock) have to try to find it before the spy does.
But who is the spy? Is it Vernon Cookley (Wayne Bryant), the local sherriff-window washer-firefighter-taxi driver? Is it Lydia Scott (Susan Eijsenck) the real estate lady? It could be Lt. Col. (Ret.) Wilfred Wooster (Douglas Stevenson), or Jewel (Dorothy Russell) the village cleaning lady.
It might even be Cyrus D. Conway (Rob Potter), the reclusive billioinaire, or Mabel (Sue Aldcorn) the village switchboard operator.
Directed by Potter and produced by Byrne and Lori Campbell, the show is sponsored by The Mill Cafe.
Tickets are $8 advance at Jessica's Book Nook, Thornbury; The Crow's Nest, Collingwood; and Stuff To Read, Meaford. Tickets at the door are $10. Children's tickets are $4.
