The building boom is slowing down, but by no means over.
Figures for the first quarter of 2008 show the pace of construction in The Blue Mountains is slowing, down by about 20 per cent from the same period in 2007.
The difference, reports Chief Building Official David Finbow, is in permits for new subdivisions and multi-unit buildings. Permits for single-family dwellings continue at about the same pace as in the past five years, Finbow said.
Construction value for the first three months of this year was about $5.24 million compared to $6.79 million for the same period in 2007. Both of those numbers are far short of the record years, 2006, when building permits were issued on construction valued at just under $14 million. The annual total, that year, was about $126.5 million. The 2007 total came in at about $73.1 million for the year.
A total of 40 permits were issued, so far this year, including 13 for new homes. Last year, for the first quarter, a total of 51 permits were issued including nine for new homes.
