Michael Osborne from Beaver Valley Community School, Thornbury placed 10th in the Grade 8 division in the Ontario Provincial Chess Challenge Sunday in Toronto.

About 400 players competed in the tournament, including14 players from Grey and Bruce Counties.

Even though many of the players in the Chess Challenge are top players in Canada and some have represented Canada at World Tournaments, the local players made an excellent showing with four, including Osborne finishing in the top 12 for their individual grades.

The others were Joel Litt, Durham, eighth in Kindergarten, Brendon Osmann-Deyman, Clarksburg, 12th in Grade 9 and Katrina Romanowich, Port Elgin, 11th in Grade 10.
