Several local community organizations in Grey County will receive Trillium Foundation community grants it was announced this week.
The Grey-Bruce Huron and Perth region grants were recently ratified by the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). There were 22 grants totalling $908,100 to help organizations enhance community spaces by improving accessibility and comfort, increasing energy efficiency or be used for innovative technology.
The Town of the Blue Mountains received $55,000 over one year to make the main entrance and washrooms in Ravenna Community Hall fully accessible, increasing its comfort and enabling greater community recreational use for people of all abilities.
The Georgian Triangle Earth Day Celebrations received $25,500 over 20 months to create and carry out a program of environmentally-focused activities, for Earth Day for youth in Grey and Bruce counties.
The Grey Bruce Children's Alliance received $77,400 over two years to involve human and social service organizations in community planning projects. Comprehensive and integrated services and supports for children, youth and families in Grey and Bruce counties will then be enhanced.
And the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum was given $15,000 over one year to upgrade the electrical system and install proper lighting at the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum. These will ensure better safety and improve the learning environment for museum visitors.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario. Ontario's 2008 spring budget boosted the Foundation's annual funding to $110 million from $105 million, which will be further increased to $120 million by 2009-2010.
