Grey County OPP are investigating three break, enter and theft occurrences that occurred overnight, between about 7 p.m. Thursday and early in the day on Good Friday.

A break and enter was discovered at the Christ Anglican Church situated on Toronto St. in Markdale at about 7:30 a.m. on Good Friday. Police said there were no signs of forced entry to the church.

Inside, an office was broken into and a storage closet was ransacked. A small amount of petty cash was stolen and the culprit(s) exited through a door on the east side of the church.

All County Feed Mill on County Road 12, in the hamlet of Goring, was also entered sometime overnight.  The front door of the building pried open and an office inside the building had been entered. A small amount of cash was located and taken from a petty cash box. Nothing else appeared to be missing.

Eckhard's Flower Store, located on Toronto St. in Flesherton, was also broken into.  The front door was pried open to gain entry.  Unfortunately, the persons residing above the store didn't hear anything overnight. The cash register was entered and an undisclosed amount of float money was stolen.

Police say these break, enter and thefts appear to be related by time frame and method. Police have noticed a sharp increase in break, enter and thefts to churches and non traditional business targets. In the majority of cases petty cash is stolen.

Area residents, especially those who live near churches, should report any suspicious activity to police.   Anyone who possesses information that might assist in the investigation of these crimes is asked to contact Grey County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
