Dick Hibma of Owen Sound has announced he will seek the federal nomination for the Green Party in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
Hibma is a life-long resident of Owen Sound who works at Bruce Power. He has served three terms as an Owen Sound Municipal Councillor and was Chair of the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority.
He says his dissatisfaction with the traditional parties' inability to address environmental issues in any meaningful way led to his decision to seek the Green nomination, adding he hopes to build on the local momentum generated by Shane Jolley in the provincial election.
"Canada's enormous environmental wealth is being squandered in the name of globalization and a misguided pursuit of unsustainable growth and prosperity," he said. "The government of Canada needs to stop reading polls, and actually provide some vision and leadership."
