When the present town hall was designed, along with the landscaping, it was considered important to keep a part of Thornbury's old waterworks (the old bulkhead).
A small piece of history was preserved and became a definite point of interest on the river path.
For some, I'm inclined to think, it was just not "aesthetically pleasing", since they didn't know or care about its history.
The uniqueness of the bulkhead, that we walked through at the edge of the river or observed from the bridge, is lost forever!
A sign of the times in Thornbury.
