The Blue Mountains OPP are reminding parents to speak to their children about the dangers of playing near creeks, rivers and ditches as the spring runoff progresses.

The combination of mild temperatures and rain the past couple of days have many waterways running at peak levels.

"As the snow continues to melt the potential for flooding will increase with existing high water levels," the OPP said in a statement. "The banks are saturated and unstable making it easier to slip and fall in. There is also increased danger near waterways where the water is fast moving."
