Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce has announced that they will be "doubling" their reward money for information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the rash of break-ins to local churches, libraries, community halls and other public buildings.

The break-ins began on December 11th in Waterloo Region and since then the culprit(s) have cut a swath across Midwestern Ontario with the most recent break-ins occurring in the Meaford - Beaver Valley area.

Crime Stoppers is cooperating with police forces in an attempt to solicit new tips regarding these crimes and as an added incentive, has offered to double the normal reward amount offered in these cases.

"I will not quote a specific reward amount" said Constable Dean Rutherford, Police Coordinator of Crime Stoppers, "however, I can say that if a single tip is responsible for solving these crimes, we will most likely consider an amount in the four figure range".

Rutherford also stressed the importance of reporting suspicious activity directly to police immediately.

"If a citizen happens across suspicious activity in relation to churches, libraries etc. it's imperative that the police, and not Crime Stoppers, be contacted immediately in order to ensure a quick response" Rutherford said.

Crime Stoppers is asking the public to be the eyes and ears for police and welcomes any information regarding possible suspects in these crimes.

If you have any information about these crimes or who is responsible then call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. You won't be asked to identify yourself, you won't have to appear in court and you will be eligible for a substantial cash reward.

Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display and does not have *69 capabilty.
