Georgian Bay Secondary School's girls and boys ski teams both collected top-10 finishes in the Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools (OFSAA) slalom and giant slalom competitions at Blue Mountain Resorts, last week.
GBSS qualified sending a girls and boys Level 2 ski team to the provincial 2008 Alpine Skiing Championships after both teams won at the Central West Ontario championships on Feb. 14.
OFSAA competition was held at Blue Mountain Feb. 25 and 26. There were 77 schools with 335 athletes attending from all over Ontario.
The girls team, consisting of Sam Brooker, Zoe Brooker, Tori Johnston and Stephanie Rogers, placed fifth in the Slalom race on Monday and fourth in the Giant Slalom race on Tuesday out of 16 teams.
Individually, Sam finished 14th and Zoe 15th in the Slalom.
In the GS race, Sam finished 13th and Zoe 16th .
There were 82 girls competing in the Level 2 division.
The boys team consisting of Cody Eaton, Sean Harvey, Kyle Hibbard, Jordy Norris and Andrew Rogers placed eighth in the Slalom race on Monday and sixth in the GS race on Tuesday out of 16 teams.
Individually, Jordy had a third-place podium finish in the GS, and a seventh-place finish in the Slalom. There were 86 boys competing in the Level 2 division
GBSS also sent to COWSSA on Feb. 14th Level 1 team members Sacha Botden, Kristin Mackey, Alissa Kordelas, Alex Gurney, Ben Young and Level 2 racer Brandon Hutchison. Coaches Peter Hibbard and Steve Martin said they are very proud of each racer's accomplishments.
