The versatility of nature -- from the arctic to the deserts -- is at the heart of Moved by Impressions, an exhibition of the art of Valda Zobens, next month in the gallery at the L.E. Shore Library.
The opening reception, with the artist in attendance, will be held on Saturday, March 1 from 2 to 4 p.m..The exhibit will be on display from March 1 to 27.
While working in the University of Toronto's Botany Department, Zobens says, she had the unique opportunity to spend several summers in the High Arctic. There, she says, she became infatuated by the black spruce forest, open tundra, and glacier fields. It was during this time that Zobens began her career in painting.
Back in Ontario, Zobens studied enameling and metal work at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts, and then went on to study at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
In this series, be prepared to witness the dazzling versatility of nature; from the impenetrability of an iceberg, to the sensuous horizons in the desert.
Moved by Impressions is on exhibit from March 1 through 27, during regular library hours. The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 until 4 p.m.
