Well done, Jim Wilson MPP (Simcoe-Grey), for fighting the closing of the Angus Early Years Centre.

Nobody in the Green Party will want to see it closed because pre-school learning is so important throughout Simcoe-Grey. We need more Early Years centres in Simcoe-Grey, not less.

Wilson may not be as old this writer, but having watched my seven-year old as she used the Alliston Early Years Centre, I can tell you the real story. Children are totally involved when they enter the Early Years Centre.

On a typical visit, my daughter would use at least half a dozen learning areas. She loves the art area, not to mention the circle time where they sing action songs, the dress-up area and working on the computer. The kids also receive great snacks, which are very nutritious so the parents can see what the children need to eat to be healthy.

Adults learn almost as much as the children, as instruction is offered to the parents on such important things as breast feeing, how to handle conflict and learning in the complex dynamics of family living. Parents can take out videos and books, and good advice is always available.

Brain development of pre-school children is more rapid than any other time in their lives, and they learn like sponges. Whenever my daughter has a PD day and her school is closed. she routinely asks to revisit the Early Years Centre, so it's obvious that for her it was very important.

Closing any Early Years Centre in Simcoe-Grey shows us that the Liberal government just does not get it. Pre-school learning is really important.

Good work, Jim Wilson. Sign the petition on his website.
