The Stanley Cup will ride through Thornbury-Clarksburg in a fire truck on its way to a visit to the Beaver Valley Community Centre, Saturday, Dec. 22.

Town officials have announced the schedule of events for the Cup's visit to The Blue Mountains.

The visit is a thank you from the National Hockey League for the town's efforts in hosting the pre-season training camp for NHL referees and linesmen last September.

The day starts with the procession, starting at 10 a.m. at the corner of Clark and Marsh Streets, Clarksburg. The route will follow Marsh St. to Bruce St. to Highway 26, across to Victoria St. and then to the Beaver Valley Community Centre.

Beaver Valley minor hockey teams will get a special visit with the cup from 10:45 to noon, and then an open house, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. will give hockey fans a chance to see the cup.

The day's activities include a chance to have your picture taken with the cup, a presentation by Craig Campbell (the 'keeper of the cup'), and hockey video clips courtesy of Terry Gregson, a local resident who is a former NHL referee still involved in training and development of NHL officials.

Mayor Ellen Anderson will officially welcome the prized trophy and there will be draws for an autographed officials jersey and for hockey memorabilia.

Proceeds from the draws and from refreshment sales will go to the BVAA.
