Where is the leadership?

Editor,

At a recent council meeting, information was provided showing the building department will again, this year, be in deficit. This year's shortfall will be over $300,000, bringing the shortfall for the last two years to over $500,000. Council seems to be stuck in "do nothing" mode on this serious problem and, in fact, members of council seem to think if they go back and review the past, somehow this will help.

A review of the past is not going to solve the current deficit. This issue is just another problem that this council will pass on to the next council and, in turn, the taxpayers will have to come up with the shortfall in increased rates.

Where is the leadership?

When all else fails, review costs and face realities. Building is not coming back in 2010, as the budget seems to indicate. Only one councillor seems to be concerned. When will the other six get the message that this issue needs attention now?

At least that's the way I see it.
