Editor:
Belated congratulations to the community of Ravenna for the work they have done on their community hall.
What a delightful surprise when I attended the Nov. 11 ceremonies at Ravenna Hall, using a walker. (Necessary when a strong arm is not available).
A group of Ravenna residents, over the last 12 years, have made many renovations and improvements to the hall: flooring, new stove and fridge, etc., for fear of losing their building as Heathcote did. But this year when the front entranceway had to be removed because of road widening, a new entrance was built on the east side. The door is automatic and no steps. That day, at least one wheelchair was also in the audience.
Included in this new entrance set-up area are new washroom facilities. Decisions about the hall are made by four board members, all from Ravenna. The total cost of the renovation was $160,000, made up with a Town grant of $30,000, a Trillium grant of $55,000, local fund-raising and the Town paid all the rest. (Figures obtained from Ravenna Hall Board members.)
The front of the building is now as it was when it was built in 1872. Historically that's a good thing.
Congratulations Ravenna, that also says "just watch me."
