OPP Constable Dwayne Frook was named Grey Highlands Officer of the Year at a special ceremony held at Monday morning's regular council meeting.

Frook was in the dark about the award. He attended the meeting with Acting Sergeant Paul Smith and Inspector Mark Vanlanduyt after being told they were coming to council to observe the political process.

Councillor Lynn Silverton, Chair of the Police Services Board, presented the award and some background about Constable Frook and his family. Constable Frook is married to Robyn and they have a daughter Brontae (eight years old) and son Dalan (five years old).

"Constable Frook consistently strives to reflect a positive image for the Ontario Provincial Police in providing a service to the citizens of Grey Highlands," said Silverton. "He always ensures that the citizens of Grey Highlands needs are addressed and the appropriate police action is taken," she said.

Inspector Vanlanduyt said Constable Frook had experienced a lot of personal crisises during the past year and continued to perform his duties as a police officer.

During the past year Constable Frook lost his father to cancer and his five year old son Dalan was diagnosed with leukemia.

"He has seen a lot of personal challenges this past year. He should be recognized for his contributions," said the Inspector.

Constable Frook was obviously caught off guard by the presentation. He said he was very pleased to receive the honour.

"It's my privilege to serve Grey Highlands and the rest of the county. This neck of the woods has become home for us," he said. "We're very grateful for the support we've received from the detachment and the community. We're very grateful and humbled," he said.
