Editor:
Regarding last week's article "Laser lights in town sights," I was asked by two residents of the community what kind of water they were putting in the town coolers.
This has got to be the most ridiculous proposal I have had ever heard from the town during these trying and recessionary times. Although no taxpayers' monies have been allocated for this so-called "visual and ambient level audio entertainment" system, it frightens me that the BIA and Chamber of Commerce would even consider supporting such a project when their monies and support are needed for more worthwhile projects such as the new family health centre. The new health care centre will attract more residents to the area and subsequently to the downtown area than "light and sound" shows.
In my opinion, this silly idea will not encourage tourism as the Mayor has indicated. It will only attract unwanted noise and visual complaints from the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Isn't that why the town is introducing a new noise bylaw - to suppress the noise and loud behavior of local restaurants and bars?
The real reason for this project? To highlight or brighten-up the proposed new town hall and the surrounding landscaped gardens. We certainly don't want the new town hall sitting in the dark - do we?
Should we be supporting this proposed laser treatment?
