The sun was shining and a fair wind was blowing as 150 guests assembled in Thornbury Harbour last Sunday to join 40 skippers of power and sail boats in the fourth-annual Sail For Hope event, sponsored by the Thornbury Yacht Club in support of the Blue Mountain Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The event has become increasingly popular, selling out early this year. Guests, who had paid a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, enjoyed an afternoon of spectacular views of Georgian Bay and the Blue Mountains from the water, returning to the harbour to enjoy a gourmet dinner with food generously donated by local restaurants, businesses and volunteers from Thornbury, Meaford, and the Village at Blue Mountain. A silent auction provided additional interest and swelled the total contribution to Cancer Society of $17,000.

Over the last four years, the Thornbury Yacht Club's Sail for Hope has contributed more than $40,000 to this worthwhile cause with the funds being used by the Branch to directly benefit cancer patients in The Blue Mountains and to support the research programs of the Canadian Cancer Society.
