More than 10,000 people packed downtown Collingwood on Friday to welcome home Canadian Idol finalist Drew Wright.

The 28-year-old singer is in the final four of the CTV reality show and was home to perform a concert that was being taped for a future episode of the show.

Wright received an escort from soldiers from the land Air Force Training Centre in Meaford and a hero's welcome from the thousands in attendance.

During his 30-minute performance, Wright performed a number of songs he performed on the show, and called the event the "best day of his life."

Wright will once again take the stage tonight on CTV, with the Idol contenders performing the hits of Anne Murray.
