Zimbabwe: The Fight for Change, Freedom, and the Children  - has been rescheduled for Thurs., Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.
 

New to the Library
 Have you ever wanted to try Geocaching?  The library now has a kit available for you to borrow. 

This kit was put assembled by several sponsors – Bruce Grey Trail Network, play your way, every day, The Grey Bruce Health Unit, Public Health and Grey Bruce Partners in Health, Together for life.  The kit includes a fact sheet about geocaching  a DVD entitled The Complete Guide to Geocaching, Geocaching for Dummies and a GPS.  The kit is available for loan for three weeks with no renewals in order to allow the kit to be used by as many patrons as possible.
 

Art Gallery
Within Borders by Joana Marcinenas – Toronto-based water colourist Joana Marcinenas brings haunted landscapes to the palette, inspiring perfect seasonal transitions for nature lovers and art enthusiasts alike.  Join us for the opening reception with the artist in attendance on Sat., Sept. 6 from 2 – 4 p.m.  The show will run from Sept. 4- 30.

Special Events
 Book Talk Under the Holy Lake:  A Memoir of Eastern Bhutan by Ken Haigh – On Sun., Sept. 21 1 – 3 p.m. local author Ken Haigh brings us tantalizingly close to his own vision of longing for a place, a people, a time, as he revisits those all-too-fleeting years as a young school teacher in the remote Himalayan village of Khaling, Bhutan. 

These experiences in an exotic country will leave you yearning for ancient Buddhist temples, winding mountain trails and a simpler way of life.  This memoir will captivate the vicarious traveler in each of us.

Upcoming Events
 The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce is now offering the First Link TM learning series to help families deal with the initial diagnosis of alzheimers and what it might mean for them. 

Topics addressed in this particular series cover the difference between normal memory loss and dementia, brain changes, coping strategies, treatments, legal and financial issues and community supports and resources. 

The L. E. Shore Memorial Library will co-host the series.  The series will run for six weeks, beginning on Sept. 4, 1-4 p.m. and will be held at the library.  For more information or to register please telephone the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce at 519-376-7230 or 1-800-265-9013.

 Children’s Programs
 New this summer – BVO Summer Homework Club – If you are in Senior Kindergarten through grade 8 and would like to brush up on your skills in order to prepare for the next school year, drop into the BVO Summer Homework Club.  Support materials are available for children and youth. 

No registration is required.  Just drop into the Library on Tuesdays through July and August between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. or call BVO for more information at 519-599-2577 ext. 21.

TD Summer Reading Program – Laugh out Loud – The wrap-up party will be held on Wed., Aug. 20 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.  If you were involved in the TD Summer Reading Program and plan to attend please register by August 15.  Put on a funny costume and we’ll see you at the party.

Story Tent – Story tent will take place on Thursdays through Aug. 21.  Our next story tent will be Thurs., Aug. 14.   This is a free drop-in event for all ages including families.  The tent will be on the front lawn of the library from 1:30 – 3 p.m.  Come and enjoy stories, songs and games.  Children under 8 should be accompanied by a guardian.

Youth Night – Our next youth night is Tues., Aug. 19  7 – 9 p.m.  This will be the third session of Summer Zine.  Building on the previous sessions which dealt with character development and how to develop a narrative this session will focus on publishing – naming your Zine, and looking at different layouts and typography.
