I would agree with Paul Mitchell's letter to the paper last week re: New Town Hall.
I also feel that the Town of The Blue Mountains was justified in purchasing the two (high-priced) adjacent properties for future use.
I think the town should hold off constructing a major office building for the present time. I would suggest that the old house (Diane's Attic), the fuel tanks and gas pumps be removed and the service centre canopy be optional. Minimal landscaping be done and the service centre be economically renovated for temporary office space and the Town Council Chambers be reclaimed for council meeting and etc.
The town hall portion of levies and development fees go into the nearly depleted hall building reserve fund.
In five years the town could take a serious look at how much office space is needed, the town's financial situation at that time, and if we can afford an addition or a new building.
Of the four options re: Town Hall, I prefer building a two-storey addition to the back end of the existing building with matching exterior, then remove the old service centre, landscape and pave.
We do not need the oval skating ice surface and the gold-plated options as proposed.
