Police are warning parents to keep an eye our their children's online activities after investigating a possible Internet luring case.

Grey County OPP media relations officer Steve Starr says that parents of a 12-year-old girl in Meaford did a routine check of their daughter's Internet activities in the last week of March and discovered that she had recently been chatting with an unknown man on MSN.

The lengthy online conversation she was involved was personal and it was clear that the man she was communicating with was aware of her age. Eventually, he offered to perform a lewd act online with the use of webcams. The male perpetrator claimed to 23 years old.

Starr said the Internet luring section of the Criminal Code, states that an accused who, by the use of a computer system, communicates with a person he believes to be under 14 years, for the purpose of facilitating an indecent act is guilty of an offence.
