Since Doug Harvey turned 60, he has entered two foot races and has won his age category both times.

First was the five-kilometre race in Peterborough and then the seventh-annual Hartwell Runner's Challenge in Aurora on April 27. This race was half a marathon over a hilly course in windy conditions.

Doug was on a 1:40 pace until the halfway point but slowed to finish in 1:47:38. Other competitors' finishing times were slower than normal indicating tough conditions. The second place over 60 was more than five minutes behind Doug, who was pleased to finish more than two minutes ahead of his daughter, Karen.

Doug finished 56th overall of 260 finishes and first of five runners over 60. Karen placed 69th overall, 17th of 122 women and 5th of women aged 30-34.

Doug and Karen will join other Coyote runners at the Trillium 5 and 10km races in Mount Forest on May 10 while other local runners will compete in the Mississauga Marathon May 11.
