Grey Roots was the site of the August 20 meeting of the Grey County Historical Society meeting.
The members were taken on a conducted tour of Moreston Historical Village, named after the More family who donated the land for the entire facility. The Blacksmith Shop was manned by a volunteer who explained the workings of a forge. Other buildings, the Log Cabin, the Log House and the Farmhouse were filled with furnishings and authentic articles of the times.
Dressed in period costumes, the attendants answered any questions from the group at all locations. After refreshments in the garden, Mr. Barry More opened his house. It is filled with Mr. More's collection of china, silverware, lamps, figurines, cabinets and furnishings of many periods. Then a tour of the gardens with its maze, many sculptures and concrete benches.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Walter's Falls with a noon luncheon.
At 1:30 p.m., Tom Cole will speak about The Coming of the Telephone to Grey County. For further information, call Paula Niall at 519-372-0225.
